January/February: Marinda Burrus

Teacher/Student Reporter: Cassie Rambaud

Marinda Burrus is a very dedicated and determined young woman. She is currently attending Edison High School with plans to attend Howard University in Washington DC. She is also involved with the Black Student Union at Edison High. Marinda wishes to major in psychology to pursue a career in that field.

Outside of school, Marinda likes to dance, hang out with friends, go shopping, and support her school by going to football games. Her number one idol is her mom because she encourages and inspires Marinda to become better in all aspects of her life.

Marinda’s study of dance started only three years ago when she saw her cousin dance, and decided she would like to try it. Her favorite style of dance is contemporary, but she has also studied tap and ballet.

Studio owner, Sue Sampson-Dalena points out the Marinda is proof that you don't have to start dancing as a toddler to be good. She says “Hard work does pay-off. Marinda is a brilliant
dancer and a wonderful young woman. Only good things are bound to come her way!”

Marinda reports that one of her favorite things about dance is that there is always a challenge and you can always get better. She is a hard worker and a teacher’s ideal student, which is why she is more than qualified to be The Dance Studio of Fresno’s Student of the Month.

Student of the Month: November

November/December: Haley Bischoff
Student Reporter: Lindsay Spitzer

Haley loves to dance! Haley Bischoff is thirteen and in the eighth grade. She attends Kastner Intermediate School and is on the pep and cheer squad. Haley loves drama and participating in school musicals. She loves..." anything that involves singing and dancing," she told me. Haley has been dancing for nine years and takes jazz and ballet classes. Haley says dance makes her feel confident, happy, and good about herself. Haley would like to be good enough in dance to get a dance scholarship for college and she hopes that she can dance for many years to come.

Haley's role models are her mom and our favorite dance teacher, Sue Sampson-Dalena. They are her role models because they push her to do her best and are always straight forward about everything. They are always giving her advice, and have faith in her. Her mom describes Haley using these three adjectives: loyal, kind, and respectful. Haley is respected by many people, like her friend Haley Paloutzian. Haley P. says, "Haley is always confident. She never puts anyone down. I definitely think of Haley as one of my role models."

Haley is a determined person who will never give up on what she's striving for. She has a great personality and brings out the best in people. Haley is a great all around person and that's why she is Sue's "Student of the Month."

Teen reporter Lindsay Spitzer is a freshmen at Clovis High School.. She's been dancing at The Dance Studio of Fresno since she was four years old. Currently Lindsay is training and performing with our Senior Elite Dancers.
